Water Metering – The fight for a fair system for all
Turf NSW and the Lower Nepean & Hawkesbury Water Users Association continue to work hard to represent members on the new regulations.
The most significant impact is on those who have more than100ml water pump and the requirement of telemetric meters. We have had meetings with both Water NSW and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and most recently written to the NSW Water Minister, Rose Jackson.
Our requests were:
A meeting with the Minister.
Put a hold on the implementation of the metering regulations to allow for a comprehensive review.
Primary producers operating within recognised flood-prone areas be permitted to comply using mechanical metering only; or
If telemetry systems remain mandatory, the Government retains ownership of the telemetry equipment and assumes responsibility for all costs associated with installation, supporting structures, maintenance, repair and replacement.
The Minister has responded stating that no change will be made to the current telemetry requirements and that the Department and WaterNSW have developed a portable pumping guideline which enables the pump, meter and associated telemetry to be secured to portable skid, trailer or similar device to allow for remove prior to flooding.
We will continue to work towards a fairer and more financial sustainable solution.
