When the floods of 2020-2022 devastated many parts of NSW it was a new experience for many turf producers. Some growers talked about hearing of floods from their parents and locals, but living and working through floods reaching over 13 metres was a very challenging experience.
It had been nearly 30 years since the last major floods in NSW, so the idea of a flood management plan was pretty much nonexistent.
This project has developed a two-part document to prepare businesses for future floods and to assist in training their staff to prepare for a flood.
Part One looks at the data and information collected from growers during the floods and why it is important to have a Flood Management Plan.
Part Two is your farm plan. It includes past experiences on your farm and will be a resource to train future staff and farm managers.
PART 1 – Flood Management for Turf Farms
This document has been developed to capture the experiences, data and lessons learned during previous floods, providing current and future turf producers with a comprehensive plan for integrating flood emergency management into their regular business operations.
This document is a working checklist manual, designed to help record and learn from previous floods, and establish planning to reduce the effect of future flood events. It is an interactive pdf you can type straight into, or print off and complete by hand.
