Turf NSW has had an opportunity to deliver and support a number of projects that provide resources for the turf production industry.  This page shares the outcomes of a variety of projects as well as general resources on the benefits of natural turf. 

Biosecurity - Red Imported Fire Ants

Keep updated with information, regulations and threats of Red Imported Fire Ants. Protect the turf industry, environment and society from invasive pests, weeds and disease.

Chemical Management on Farm

Farm chemical safety in NSW is strictly regulated under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011 and WHS Regulation 2017. These laws ensure proper handling, labelling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, and veterinary medicines. Ensure your farm is compliant and staff are trained.

Water Resources

Turf Growers of NSW are represented at meetings with water authorities to we have a voice when it comes to regulations and decision making relating to water availability. This page provides information on water metering, licensing and contact details for water authorities.

New Generation Turf Cultivars - AgEnviro Solutions Report

Opportunities to grow sporting field carrying capacity on Sydney's North Shore. Turf farmers can reduce flood impacts by growing new generation couch cultivars. However, there needs to be a market for the sale of these grasses, many of which can also handle high foot traffic. This study assessed about 95% of the natural turf sports fields on Sydney’s North Shore to quantify the potential increase in carrying capacity from using new generation grasses.

Flood Recovery & Resilience for Turf Farms

This project looks at all aspects of managing floods for turf producers. Learning from the experiences of NSW Turf Producers during devastating floods in 2020-2022, this project covers a range of topics including silt management, flood preparation, and recovery.

This project is designed specifically for the Turf Production industry and takes a deep dive into farm operations, business resilience with the goal of discovering ways to Grow & Thrive your business to handle challenging periods and improve your profitability.

Natural Turf for Erosion & Sediment Control Site

Learn about the benefits of natural turf for erosion and sediment control. Also find out about the new NSW demonstration site for erosion and sediment control.

Creek & Drain Clearing

The importance of regular creek and drain clearing was never more evident that during periods of floods. Turf Producers felt the devastating impact of blocked drains and creeks. This project addresses this issue in 3 areas in the Hawkesbury Region.

Turf for Riverbank Restoration

This project demonstrates the benefits of natural turf in restoring riverbanks to prevent erosion. A demonstration site was developed after significant riverbank destruction following multiple floods.

Turf Transport Safety Guidelines

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) awarded Turf NSW with a Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative funded project to develop safety guidelines that cover the restraint of the turf products including packaging and mass and load distribution on various heavy vehicles.

Drought Resilience for Turf Production

This project managed by University of NSW, takes a deep dive into the potential for use of oxygenated nano bubbles in turf irrigation systems and how it could benefit strong healthy turf growth with reduced water and products. COMING SOON.

Manuel Stacked Harvester Design Requirements

This report provides guidance to assess design modification to enhance safety of manually stacked turf harvesters. A number of risks were identified during a coronial enquiry into a fatality, and the findings and recommendations were taken up by Safework NSW and Turf Australia who engaged EngAnalysis to develop a practical guide for the industry.
