Grower Interviews following Floods

The grower interviews were the first process for the Turf Industry Preparedness and Recovery project, and this would lead the direction for other project tasks.

In consultation with industry representatives and the video production team, a questionnaire was developed. The planning and structure of the interviews were carefully managed, and the team were mindful of the potential to trigger trauma from the difficult times faced through multiple floods and significant impact on businesses and families.

The questionnaire needed to be developed to support both this project and data required for the Turf Industry Research and Development project (BC-007).

Some interviews were conducted as part of the video production and other were separate farm visits.

The interviews covered a wide span across the state of flood impacted areas and the included a cross section of the industry from businesses of different sizes and years of experience.

The results for this task included:

  • 19 interviews have taken place in various locations across NSW –
  • Hawkesbury Region & Southwest Sydney x 11
  • Central Coast and Hunter x 4
  • Taree area x 2
  • Tweed Heads/Northern NSW x 1
  • Wagga Wagga x 1

Turf NSW would like to thank everyone involved in this project. All turf producers interviewed were generous with the time and willingness to share information and challenges of the floods.
